Take away one of the biggest races of the year to add another road course? I just wanna see them go fast and turn left.

The 2018 NASCAR Cup schedule was expected to be released some time this month.
But a report via Twitter from Adam Stern of SportsBusinessDaily.com and Sports Business Journal — citing unidentified sources — indicates the schedule release has been delayed.

IMS is reportedly considering changing the format of the Brickyard 400 from its usual race on the famous 2.5-mile oval — which has hosted the 400 since its inception in 1994 — to a road course race in 2018.

Incorrect; Brickyard is a novelty at best and overhyped by the media. It would be an interesting change that would hopefully help add interest to the event.
Last year was abysmal attendance.

It won't fix anything. The Indy 500 will always sell out because of its history and prestige.
My grandfather took me to the 400 when I was 12 in 1997 and at best you can see 1/2 the track depending on where you sat. During time trials and qualifying we sat in Turn 1 so we could see the front stretch and the cars enter into turn 2. For the race we could only get tickets in the stands behind pit road. It's one of those races you're better off watching on tv.

NASCAR has actually needed to add a road course or two for a while now.
Never would have guessed they'd sacrifice the brickyard for it, but this is a peculiar juncture in NASCAR history rt now.

The Brickyard race has never interested me. It was added while NASCAR was at its highest interest level or at least is fast interest growing times. It was added at because Indy wanted a part of it, not because NASCAR needed it.

I was told it's he 3rd most popular sport according to a Harris poll....More popular than the NBA....
Full Disclosure: I do watch a couple races a year, but that thread was ridiculous

Nobody cares about the newer younger entitled drivers. No Gordon, Stewart, and soon to be Junior = no care.

That's a (small) step in the right direction. 10-15 more and I might start to follow NASCAR. Aussie V8 Supercars is what NASCAR could have been.

Good. IMS wasn't designed for stock cars to run on it and it produces a poor race pretty much every year
I've stopped watching NASCAR but you can't say they've quit trying to change ways to engage fans.

They should just make every race 60 laps long and run three of them each Sunday

Wow.
Hardly have I ever seen a post that so quickly proved ignorance as this one did. You clearly don't know shite
Also, FTR to anyone else who may get the wrong idea from your post, NASCAR is far from dying. Are they struggling with attendance and ratings? Yes. Is almost every single other sport struggling with ratings? Yes

The 9 straight years of falling attendance has to be alarming for NASCAR officials.

Daytona, Dega, California, Las Vegas, Phoenix, Homestead have all had pretty good attendance this year and have been pretty consistent lately, and both road courses have had some of the best 'racing' over the last few years, and have pretty strong attendance as well.
Nascar needs to focus on their actual racing product, if the product is good fans will return. Indycar has done pretty well after hitting rock bottom a few years back, to drawing 100k+ @ alot of their road courses lately. They have also been testing the road course @ Charlotte. They need to add more road courses, so this is a good thing.
See Texas, their attendance is pathetic and that's the only track I've ever been to where I actually fell asleep in the grandstands while watching.

I hope they have the balls to add more road courses to the schedule. They should have at least doubled the amount 10-15 years ago.
Running the road course at IMS would be great.

Half the races should be road courses.

It was a tongue-in-cheek joke.

I actually think they should take the brickyard off the schedule completely, most boring racetrack on the schedule. Hard to find anybody that likes that race. Give a race to Mid Ohio or Road America. I'd love a night roadcourse race.
