The majority usually acknowledge that the player is an idiot for getting busted, but the underlying problem still remains. It's a dumb policy and does nothing but hurt the league.

This is basically my view as well. Testing for it is ridiculous, but I've got a hard time feeling bad for Gordon. He continually used a drug with no chemical dependency knowing full well it was disallowed. He made it painfully clear he would rather smoke weed than play in the NFL.
