If you want to see what it's like with the Federation (and the whole Alpha Quadrant) in a full on war, then definitely watch it. I loved it. But like some have said, things are slow developing, and the actual war doesn't formally start until like the 5th season.

This is a subject that can go either way with me, as far as liking it or not.
It's not like they went into much stellar cartography or, to be simple we'll call it geography, on the show. But they kind of quit worrying about where Alpha Quadrant peoples were really from. The Klingons and Romulans were really from the Beta Quadrant, and would have had to go a long way to get involved with stuff at DS9. But since we knew who they were they got included in the Alpha Quadrant.
Though, that's likely a topic for another day.
