This is basically what I've been saying for around a month.

Players play the game. They can either produce or they can't. Like I've said before, when Paul makes a mistake, I will call him out on it. I did it when he took coomes out for slaughter.
There has to be a point, where you can't just go "RBABLEBEL PAUL MAINERI SUCKS" Sometimes your players just aren't clutch. LSU has a bunch of unclutch players right now. You can't teach that shite. When LSU players produce hits, we win. When we don't, we lose. Pitching has actually been really good since Kentucky debacle (even though it's against two bad offensive teams)
I feel like a lot of you are very vocal about losses because you love the tigers and the easiest target is the head coach. Last night wasn't on CPM, the Kentucky series wasn't on CPM (Kentucky is fricking amazing this year) The A&M series wasn't on CPM. Players have to produce or this year is over.

I basically agree, but batters can be taught situation awareness, and what pitchers are doing against them so they can adjust and maybe hit that ground ball with a man on third or the deep sac fly in the clutch.
Players can be taught plate discipline, how to compete better with two strikes, etc.
But players have to execute.

That wasn't a mistake... speed on first base in late innings down by a run.
Keeping Slaughter at the plate in the 9th was the mistake.

Cheers to ya, but I'm not so sure you are 100% correct...I commented earlier about the amount of change in the batting order this late in the season. I would have hoped by now that Paul could have figured it out, but, then again, his adjustments may not be all his fault, it could even make your points more valid...
I do think we have a great defense, our hitting is streaky, as is our pitching...
Here's to the Tigers to get on a roll...it's that time of the year...go big, or go home...

When you have so many returning players and things seem so different compared to when Canni was here, you have to question what kind of impact he had.

When Mainieri said this past offseason that he felt at times Cannizarro was too aggressive on the basepaths, I was like, "aw hell nah"

STFU poncho. This team has taken on the personality of the coach. Mainieri will never win another CWS at LSU mostly due to his constant tinkering and his whatever the frick you want to call that's the reason he has the worst staff in the conference and in the top 25.

Can be taught situations, yes... execution is on the hitter, & remember, that is a live pitcher, trying his best to make you do just the opposite...

Too be fair, his tinkering is why LSU won a title under him.
I don't mind the tinkering, if shite doesn't work, you got to fix it, it's just that some of the moves he makes don't make a ton of sense i.e. bunting K-Rob tonight when he was the only consistent hitter the night before.
Thankfully, Freeman bailed him out.

Downvoted for simple fact that it absolutely drives me insane to have runners on base with 0-1 outs and all the sudden this "pop fly out" lineup can't get a runner in. Pisses me off! I'm still pissed about yesterday, sunshine from today hasn't alleviated that yet

quote:yes you can. when appropriate, you most certainly can
There has to be a point, where you can't just go "RBABLEBEL PAUL MAINERI SUCKS"
quote:but when the program has been falling short for 7 years in a row? that falls squarely on the coach. the head coach to be specific
Sometimes your players just aren't clutch

quote:this team, on paper, should be second to no one except maybe tcu. that is absolutely on cpm. i know the season isn't over but, you have to admit, it has been maddeningly underwhelming.

All those words and no one gives a frick
Mannn this shite goes way back before the A&M series, and way beyond this year. He lost me like 5 years ago when we had a couple shitty recruiting classes and he said "I was being lazy".
Wake up and smell the roses, he is a mediocre midget of a coach who has benefited from the tradition of LSU baseball

Then stop following the team, clearly it doesn't bring you joy and no one is forcing you to watch.

See this is the bullshite that pisses me off, Mainieri has gotten lazy as of late, but to say he has benefitted from LSU is so ridiculous. Go look at the shite Smoke left him with and look how quickly he got the program back on track.
Mainieri is NOT a mediocre coach in terms of all-time... he has just lost a step as of late.

No doubt, but when you see veteran players who have been in the program awhile not doing the little things to advance runners, you finally come to the conclusion they aren't being coached to do what's necessary.

Wow, ell, that's neat...guess he got converted around April Fool's Day...

how quickly he got the program back on track

Losing Davis and Cannizaro both hurt because their experience and maturity were not replaced.

Holy shite.
Smoke left him a roster with Buzzy Haydel as a starter... Mainieri had that team back in Omaha in his 2nd year. Won it the next year.
anomaly.
