Live in North Monroe or Sterlington if you're working on the east side of the river, the commute over the river gets old fast.

Monroe is a hidden gem. North Monroe has an old school Mayberry feel. You'll know everyone, and everyone watches out for each other's kids. Good schools, world class hunting/fishing, and a growing economy. Centurylink is Louisiana's largest company by a lot, $60 billion. IBM is building a tech park with them. Graphic packaging is building a new $26 million plant. Not a bad place to live at all.

east side of the river,

My first user name here was EastsideStunna, back in the day. The name that my folks gave me is listed on numerous ball fields and monuments around EORD as well as OPHS. Those monuments will never come down, fwiw.
