The Topeka Police Department released bodycam footage from an officer who jumped into a pond Monday to save a 4-year-old boy. The video starts with Officer Aaron Bulmer searching for people involved in a fight in the area. He spots the child next to the Central Park Community Center pond. As he gets out of his cruiser to talk to him, the kid slips in. Bulmer doesn't hesitate. He races over, jumps in, and pulls the child back to solid ground. Emergency crews arrived at the scene and took the child to a local hospital to be checked out. The kid was then reunited with a parent who had been out searching for him at the time. Police noted they later learned the child had been diagnosed with Autism, adding that many children with Autism are drawn to water. Read more at LINK

Saw this on worldstar yesterday. First comment was that he wouldn't have done it if it were a black kid

I don't think it is, depending on where a child is on the spectrum, the child can be just as strongly averse to water.
each child with autism is very unique and different. The main general things are repetitive behaviors and lack of age appropriate social behaviors. In general children with autism hate changes in routines and only prefer certain textures when it comes to food
Things to look for in an infant is if a child can't smile big or when he or she is a toddler won't be able to place their attention to something that you point at. Or if a toddler no longer does certain activities that he or she was able to do.

There was an Autistic child found drowned in a pond not too long ago in Youngsville. Apparently he liked going to the pond so Maybe there is something there.

For this child yeah
Sounds like going to the water regularly calmed him down. Some kids with autism are really averse to water as well its a case by case basis
