I, personally, would probably just go get lost in the mountains somewhere for a week or 2 if I were just coming off a divorce

Go to Mallorca in Spain for a couple days and mess with European women, then hop over to Lake Como in Italy or the Alps in Switzerland or Austria for some stunning views.

There are many, many great options out there, but if this is what you want to do, come to Oregon.

Portland is large enough to keep you grounded in civilization, but you can see the beaches, the mountains, and the desert all in one day. 90 minutes west of Portland is the beach, and 90 minutes east of Portland is Mt Hood. There is all kinds of hiking and boating opportunities nearby. For water activities, you can fish, go to Hood River and wind surf, or go whitewater rafting.

The beaches in Oregon aren't the kind you just lay out on all day, you walk them and explore tidal pools, driftwood, and hiking trails.

Great breweries all across the state and they are mostly laid back without loud music and big crowds, which makes them the perfect place to go and have a great craft beer in solitude, or to strike up a conversation. There are many great restaurants in Portland. The food scene here is fantastic, and I like the fact that it is laid back. Portland is not a white table cloth kind of town, so even the best restaurants are laid back holes in the wall that are more hip than formal.

Anyway - there's my take on Portland. I'll shut up and let others make suggestions, now.

This. Some solitude in Nature. Do a little hiking, a little fishing, or just sitting on a mountaintop taking it all in.
