SEC Sports

Bama softball player hits a home run, over-celebrates, and doesn't touch home plate.

Regardless, I don't think the umpire got the call correct. I think you have to step off and appeal, not sure the tag by the catcher works.

For official stats purposes that still counts as an HR right?

College baseball is just as bad

Sacrifice but? Everybody better flood out of the dugout all the way out to the on deck circle to high five him

Softball has ruined dugout chatter for both sports.

In softball you can appeal by either live or dead ball means. A live appeal means tagging the runner who missed the base. Dead ball appeal is the step off rubber one.

It does work, although the catcher could have just stepped on the plate with the ball, didn't have to tag the player.

I believe it didn't really matter what the batter/runner did at that point, she had already abandoned the base path and headed to the dugout, so she wouldn't have been able to retroactively touch home plate.

Softball games are some of the most grating sporting events to attend.

I love everything about this. And of course it happened in a softball game. About as funny as the chick who tried to tie her shoe in the middle of a basketball game......while bringing the ball up.

Softball player do overreact, but...

Seems the umpire injected himself into the play afterwards, and tips the catcher off, to do the tag.

Are umpire allowed to yell out to a pitcher, who's thinking of balking, to throw to first instead of not throwing the ball to first?

Does an umpire tells a 2nd basemen to tag a runner who didn't tag 2nd base on the slide. Seems it would be wrong for an umpire to tip a 2nd basemen the runner didn't touch 2nd base while sliding. Is it up to player to figure out the wrong-doings or can a umpire say something?

So are we just going to ignore big #34 playing grab arse with hotter blond teammate. Go rewatch the last 5 seconds. Not that I blame her.

The umpire knew exactly what he was doing. He watched closely, saw the runner NOT touch home plate, and handed a ball to the catcher. He looked pretty sure of himself, so I side with the umpire here.

The more epic meltdown was how Alabama ultimately lost the game. They were up 1 run in the bottom of the 7th. Ole Miss had 2 outs and bases empty. Alabama pitcher walks a batter...next batter hits a grounder to 3rd which should end the game but the 3rd baseman threw the ball halfway back to Tuscaloosa...runner on 1st scored and the batter ended up at 3rd. Game tied. Then the next batter got an infield single. Runner from 3rd scores....game over. Former LSU head coach Patrick Murphy and his Alabama squad go home losers. That must have been a hell of a bus ride home.

I'm impressed that big ole girl can run all the way around the bases. Should have given her the homer for that feat alone.

This is the classic clip:

Premature celebration costs softball team title

I like when the girl throws it to home to nobody.

The ump is standing there with the catcher and you know he's like - dude, she never touched the plate, go tag her arse.
