The sport has changed so much. It's more about protecting ones record than putting on a good show. The quality of trainers has decreased a ton recently. ( I worked with mayweathers trainer Nate Jones and someone who beat James toney and Roy Jones jr) so I feel like I can speak on that subject.
Roy Jones was fun to watch and beyond marketable now everyone wants to be like Floyd

boxing is done. The biggest fight going right now is a fight between a ufc fighter and a retired fighter.

quote:I think that's true for American fighters. This cynical business model of openly gloating while ripping off fight fans that Floyd Mayweather perfected sucked the fun out of American boxing. But the sport is thriving in Europe, as Wlad-AJ proved.

British boxing writers have quadruple the social media following that their American counterparts do. British fans travel the world to support their guys. Because British fighters have this honor bound culture of taking on the toughest fights and giving the fans a show. Amir Khan had been shamed over there for behaving like an American and not taking on the dangerous Kel Brook while instead chasing a payday with Pacquiao, who hasn't knocked anyone out in almost a decade.Their boxing still has heart.
Same can be said for this up-and-coming batch of Eastern European fighters, especially Ukraine. Same with Mexican fighters (besides Canelo, who is too valuable for Goldenboy to risk). Have you seen Mexican or European boxing crowds? It's incredible! None of the boring photo-op bullshite bored arse selfie crowd we saw at Mayweather-Pac.
Boxing is alive and well. It will always be compelling because it produces the most compelling matchups between athletes of any sport. It can be so aesthetically pleasing. And it always produces fascinating characters.
