"One thing is clear: Those of you who have not held your tongue about ESPN’s move away from an all-sports-all-the-time mantra also should not hold your breath waiting for a change.
ESPN has made it clear: It’s not sticking to sports."

Reminds me of MTV not sticking to music videos. Instead they push the ghey agenda down everyone's throat.
ESPN SUCKS!

"ESPN, in fact, just removed any question about the sports-politics-culture intersection when it released new political guidelines that loosen the restraints on commentary about politics and culture, though stressing that such discussion should connect to sports whenever possible."

With having to let go of a ton of employees you would think that they would have learned their lesson...

I, for one, can't wait until politics interrupts every facet of my life.

Can't wait til' they make a 30 for 30 on how they drove the biggest media company in the world into the ground over the course of a decade

ESPN has basically become sports talk radio on tv. They could show the color bar for visual and programming would still be the same.
The only thing worth a shite is the live sports. And they are bankrupting themselves trying to own all sporting rights.
They have lost their identity and it appears Disney doesn't care and continuing down the same failing path.

Do what I do, don't watch unless it's live sports. Of the 50 people they canned today I had heard of only five and could only tell you what Ed Werder looked like. I don't watch highlights or pregame foolishness, I don't care. That goes for all the other channels with sports shows. Fox and CBS NFL pregame shows are boring as can be. I can't muster a care about what some talking head thinks about what happened on or off the field.

What sucks is that it's not as if there aren't enough highlights in sports available that they have to resort to the talking head nonsense. If they showed highlights from every game in the major sports they'd probably get people like myself back. Show soccer too I don't give a shite. It's better than racebaiting and politics

I'm glad they are doing this. It will be their demise. Keep up the good work ESPN

“Hey, ESPN: Stick to sports.”
I’ve read thousands of social media posts and reader emails about ESPN over the past 15 months. If there’s one phrase that tends to surface most frequently, it’s that chestnut suggesting the network’s only proper place is in the athletics lane.
It's a shame their own ombudsman admits this at the very beginning of his piece, yet ESPN still feels their best course of action is to move beyond sports.
There are certainly different ways to evolve with the times, but what happened to the customer always being right?

Sounds like a good plan.

After firing people who commented on politics and/or culture. I guess everyone left is safely on board with the correct attitude.

And viewership will continue to decline.

The SEC better save its money so it can buy out the SEC Network when ESPN has to sell it to pay for the other contracts it signed.

You used to be able to watch Sports Center and know exactly what was going on in every sport. Knew the standings in baseball, knew players from every team, without having to actually watch a game. Same goes for basketball, and hell even hockey.
Now you only get the same few players and teams being talked about every day. I don't need 10 different people's opinions on if LeBron James sitting out a basketball game is ok or not.
I seriously went the entire NBA season (i don't watch it much, but still try to follow what's going on) and didn't know the Jazz were in playoff contention. Now it seems the Jazz are pretty damn good, but you would never ever know that from watching ESPN.
