Just give the f'ing highlights and scores
You can get highlights on youtube and twitter now. SC was never going to remain a highlights-only program.

Nah frick them all. they had Caitlyn Jenner on this week. I got to listen to fricking LeBatard, who sucks and deserves to be fired. interview Jenner for about five mins.
Driving, the other day, LeBatard was denying that ESPN went all in politically. He said that it would be crazy to alienate people. He said that's why they fired Curt Schilling.
Now that their business model is failing, they want back all the people they pissed off with their social engineering phase.

ESPN non live sporting events are terrible across the board. Never ending pop culture references and fabricated controversy. They're obviously trying to appeal to millennial and it's horrid.
You aren't wrong, but going back to just a bunch of highlights and scores that I can see on the internet isn't the answer.

Well then

I sat in on a discussion forum at the NAB Expo in Vegas concerning new technologies allowing sporting events to be broadcast without any need for a cameraman. The cameras use algorithms and player recognition software to to follow the plays, produce stats and provide cut aways. All that's needed is a director, who can be anywhere in the world. The play by play can be, too.

On the Simmons thing, I think its pretty obvious ESPN made a huge mistake- even though his columns are stale at times he was by far their most listened to podcaster and his behind the scenes skills carried their website and the non-live sports parts of the network- 30 for 30, all the Grantland writers, etc.

The Ringer has been hit or miss but it seems to be getting better. Simmons seems to have an eye for picking out talent.

Since you know it would bug him, I want someone to compare Simmons to Joe Torre or Doc Rivers- good but not great at his chosen field but great at managing others in that field.

These layoffs have nothing to do with that.

Cord cutting is hammering so many cable companies, which is it so hard to believe that is what is happening to ESPN.
Posted on 4/26/17 at 4:41 pm to Uncle JackD
ESPN got bloated over the last 15 years and was likely paying bloated salaries to people who generated little return. ESPN losing subscribers do to cord cutting and greatly over paying for broadcast rights is the main catalyst behind this. ESPN's liberal bias is pretty low on the list of things that caused this.

I mean that is probably a bit harsh to when Simmons was in his writing prime. He really pioneered a lot of the sports/pop culture crossovers that are so common now.
Comparing him to Doc would be amazing after their showdowns during the NBA draft.

quote:you make valid points but their liberal bias plays a huge part... bigger than they're leading on. I will never watch the station unless there's an LSU game on.. and majorly of people I know feel the same.

I won't watch them.... except when I watch them... live sports is where they make a huge portion of their advertising money.

One of the things that makes ESPN and sports radio intolerable

The amount of money being lost from cord cutting, subscribers dying, and inflated payments for sports rights massively out weights people not watching of a because liberal bias.
While you and the mjaority of people you know may not be watching except for games, you are still paying that monthly subscription fee. The subscription fees are the bread and butter of ESPN. You not watching the 6pm sports center or first take doesn't hit their bottom line.

I mean their Who is "Now?" segment may be the worst thing ever put on TV. Bill's classic columns were legit though.

oh, I'm sure he and many of the others on that side believe that.
I mean, they believe that a 15 year old boy has the worldly experience and wisdom to decide if he should cut off his own dick, of course they don't think ESPN went too far....!
Didn't read entire thread - has anyone seen a composite listing of the firings?
Curious minds want to take a look at the list and see if any similarities are discovered.....
