Car dealership - taking care of the customer beyond the sale

Why is it I sit in a dealership, they become my best friend, they will offer pretty much anything to close the deal, but service after the fact is garbage?
All of you have seen it on the glass with the sales manager tracking every detail of the sale (which in my opinion it shouldn't be visible to customers) but yet when I take my vehicle in to get serviced (a package that I paid extra for, and no I didn't get ripped off) I get told they have to go see.
Why doesn't the service department have the same "board" letting the department know what the vehicles progress is?
Situation. I bought a new vehicle about an hour north of me. We had it scheduled to get the work done. We take the vehicle up there the day before because the apt is early morning. It was supposed to be done at 12. When wife called (no pics) they couldn't tell her what the status was. So she went shopping and just waited. I call up frustrated that my wife is waiting because no one can give her an answer. When I call the "service department" the receptionist that handles this tells me she isn't even in the same building. This frustrates me further. I am on hold for 20 mins then she picks up the phone and says that it has been completed. I call wife to tell her, she shows up and they are unfriendly.
This is a large Auto park so I understand that they are busy, but why is this manager of the department/Auto park do this? I'm going to call the dealer I bought from and address it from there, but is there anything else I should mention? Just trying to fix this issue so it doesn't happen again.

I always expect post sale service to be shite, so I try to get as much upfront as I can

The more high end the car, the better the service after the sale has been in my experience

I haven't had that experience. I'm a GMC guy and continue to do business with the same dealership so maybe that matters. I happen to think that they are just a great dealership.

I am not brand loyal, so I always look for a dealership that has good service reviews.
One issue I see with service departments is the lack of quality technicians. These modern vehicles have surpassed a lot of "technician's" intellectual level.

I agree with you but where is the service manager? Dudes probably making what 60k a year? That's a low estimate too imo. Just don't understand how these ppl get hired or haven't got fired.

I can agree and disagree with you on this. The vehicle isn't a luxury vehicle but it's an Auto park not a 1 brand dealer.
I've had BMW's and an Infiniti before and they are better but rape you on maintenance and part cost so it better be higher service for more $$$

I purchased a preowned g35 years ago, from the br infiniti dealer. They asked me to come back a few days later for a oil change.
After re inspecting the car - they determined that the tire tread wasn't acceptable for their pre-owned program and installed 4 new tires(free).
Needless to say I was blown away -

Buy used and stay away from dealership repair shops. I use 2 shops for repairs for my vehicles. I can drop in unannounced in the morning to drop my vehicle off with a problem and my vehicle is repaired on the same day unless it is truly a multi-day repair.
I hear people talking about having to get an appointment at a dealership for repairs and I laugh at them.

I have been to many bad dealers.
Purchased a Nissan from New Iberia (normal haircut) a year or so ago. Had two recalls that needed to be done. Dropped it off and requested an oil change and tire rotation while it was there.
When I picked it up, it was all done at no charge. Advisor reminded me that I had like 5 free oil changes and 3 free rotations. Car was washed as well.

Sounds like you bought from a shite dealership.
Like someone else said I have the opposite problem. The salesman sends me emails all the time. Whenever I've brought my car in, I've gotten a loaner vehicle, process was quick and painless, and most times I've gotten my car back same day. When they weren't able to they let me know, I didn't have to call them. This is a Lexus dealership so there may be something to car quality/service correlation.
Question; is there any chance you were being jackasses towards them? Get more flies with honey than vinegar.
