First, I'm rereading the book for the first time in 30 years. I'm just getting into it, and don't remember many details, just the way it makes me feel.

As far as Stanley and Patricia's marriage and the detail that King gives to it and her personal background, I see it as a metaphor for Derry. It looks really nice and happy on the outside, but on the inside there's just something there that's nasty and won't go away
