Whats the lake to the south east of cow island? its a little smaller
Warner Lake? That will be really high and flooded.
ETA: no not Warner lake. I don't know what that is but I don't see a away to get in there.

That launch is kinda tricky with the current. Be careful.

4 bass. And yes the current in the river was ripping.

Man, i havent taken my little boat in any current yet. im sure itll be fine, though. Thats if i decide to go there. I'm leaning a little more toward Lake Martin now.

Tell me about your boat.
Posted on 5/17/17 at 1:16 pm to Janky
14' aluminum with a 9.8hp 4 stroke.

You should be fine. Back in the day little atchafalaya was open on both ends so you could get of the river quickly and it was a shorter ride.

Thanks. I may wait until i have someone with me to back my truck down while im in the boat, rather than do both by myself. I doubt id have any trouble launching or picking up, but just since I've never done it in current before.

I wouldn't let the current stop you. Especially in a small boat like yours. I had no problem putting my 19ft. boat on the trailer that my dad backed down at a 45* angle.

It'll be a nice little ride to Cow Island with a 9.8 hp. But the current won't be much trouble. It mostly just makes trailering the boat tricky.

cool, thanks. ill let yall know how i do when and where ever i go.

Go to Lake Martin and give me a report. I want to go there at some point.
Posted on 5/17/17 at 1:50 pm to PillageUrVillage
yeah, i can hit 19 or 20mph wide open by myself, but i dont typically run it wide open. so im thinking a 25 or so minute trip.

Got an update for you guys:
Went to the Lacassine Pool yesterday. We didnt get on the water until about 9am due to the 90 minute drive, and the fact that I didnt want to wake up at 4:45 is to get there at daylight. The water was clear, you could see to the bottom which was about 6ft where we fished. The entire area we fished was full of either hydrilla or lilly pads. Despite many reports of people catching a lot of perch and bream there, we did not see a single one. Every small fish I saw in the water was just baby bass. My gf fished a hair jig under a stopper (we didnt pass a bait store like I thought we would, so we had no live bait) and caught three little bass about 10in or so. Not a single bream or perch. I caught five bass; kept 4. The biggest I caught was 16in.
I plan on going back next saturday early, and with a buddy who will be bass fishing also, so hopefully we catch more than I did yesterday.
So yesterday wasnt GREAT in terms of what we caught, but considering its litterally the first keeper bass we caught since I bought my little boat in March, I was very satisfied. Since I've been fishing every bayou and lake around here, and can't caught any bass, I'm gonna just have to make the drive to Lacassine until the water in Henderson gets right.

Heading to lake martin in the morning. Do yall know if theres a live bait shop near the boat launch?

I think there used to be a place on Louisiana ave before carmel drive headed north (opposite side of the muni golf course). Not sure what they carry or if they're still open.
La ave and Pershing ave
