Doesn't change the facts though. Hard to project/scout what you haven't seen. As much as a player like Fournette could impact our offense, a player who can do a lot of both - like Le'Veon Bell - would be a way better fit for us.

It's funny you mentioned Le'Veon Bell as a do it all back & while discounting Fournette because of the type of offense Fournette played in at LSU. Do you even realize Bell played in a very similar down hill running scheme at Michigan State where he wasn't asked to catch many passes either? Secondly, do you even know that Bell lost weight after his rookie season to transition to being an every down back in Pittsburgh? I wonder how Bell ever made it to become current poster child of the every down NFL back since the Steelers never saw him do it in East Lansing?

quote:

When Le'Veon Bell was drafted in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, experts and media declared him as the big back the Pittsburgh Steelers have been desiring since Jerome Bettis retired. However, Bell might not be as big as he was when he came out of college. In fact, the man is trimming down.

In Bell's rookie season, his listed weight was 244 pounds. Pretty heavy for a running back that is known for hurdling opponents

quote:

Bell declared that his current weight is down to around 225 pounds, give or take. That would be the lightest he has been since before his freshman year at Michigan State. Bell talked about not only making himself faster, but adding an element of explosiveness that he felt his game was missing in 2013.

"Turning an 8 yard gain into a 70 yard gain."

Although Bell admitted that him losing weight was on his own accord, the Pittsburgh Steelers organization has been happy with his conditioning when he reported to camp.

Bell focused on his footwork and conditioning in the offseason and claimed to be in the best shape of his life as he heads into his second training camp of his young career.

Le'Veon Bell MSU Highlights

Now tell me how many receptions do you see as part of that highlight reel? How many I formation runs with a fullback leading the way are there?

After showing to be a really good pass catching back his freshmen year at LSU, Spencer Ware unexpectedly bulked up his sophomore year to presumably be more of a down hill runner. That added bulk took away a good bit of his lateral agility. Since being picked up by the Chiefs (Seattle drafted Ware), Ware slimmed back down to become the every down back he showed his freshmen year. Ware wasn't thrown to enough out of the backfield at LSU either but he hasn't prevented him from being a solid pass catching back in the NFL.

I'm amazed at how many people try to discount the abilities of an incredible talent such as Leonard Fournette.....
Hell not many WR's at LSU had superior stats in the passing game either, but LSU continues to recruit them and the NFL continues to draft them!
