In other words, any league that doesn't have the best players.

If the USSF and MLS are going to insist on treating me like nothing more than a customer, don't be surprised when I don't buy your inferior product.
If there was a system that properly supported grassroots clubs (not single entity subsidiaries, but actual clubs) you'd see more soccer fans in this country supporting it and a healthier, more vibrant game here.

Doesn't help they black out games all across the country.

My biggest gripe is that it is an inferior product. Defending is atrocious. But I'm an ATL fan and them boys can play. Rt now it's the only thing saving me from jumping off a cliff from being an Arsenal fan.

Maybe it means that NBC Sports is a better channel than FS1?
Oh, and NBCs coverage and even just the freaking broadcast of the English premier league, blows everything out the water.
We can watch every single English premier league game in amazing quality. Can't do that with MLS.

They don't show 3pm games on Saturday in England
But that's to make people go watch local football

More like any cheap or poorly conceived imitation that exists solely to skim off custies.

Fox's soccer coverage is disgraceful
I completely agree. I got into the premier league exponentially more when it moved to NBCSN. I thought ESPN did a good job with the international tournaments as well, but now FOX owns those.
I remember on Fox Soccer they would always do a social media vote for man of the match, and regardless of the scoreline Wayne Rooney would win it.

Instead we have MLS, which takes all the worst aspects of the major American leagues and shoehorns them into a sport and world market which they are completely incompatible with.
What would you do differently?

Hey DS, big fan here. Can you share your thoughts on MLS? I'm not sure everybody knows them yet. I'll hang up and listen.

This seems like a stretch.
Just because something worked a long time ago in other places around the world doesn't mean it could be plugged in the American pro sports landscape in the mid-1990s and automatically work. MLS has been set up and further developed the way it has to avoid the financial mistakes of prior leagues in America. It's far from perfect, but it's been the most sustainable so far.
I don't think anybody but super hipsters and haters aren't watching MLS because of its structure.
Some American soccer fans aren't going to get into it because they get spoiled (and reasonably so) by watching the best soccer in the world. It's not going to be the same here.

ITT we act like the over commercialization of soccer is an American and MLS problem, all the while OP supports a quatari's play thing and a club-turned-sporting good store branding extension
Your 2nd comment is conjecture wholly unsupported by American soccer history

i.e. Not an inferior product.
I'm not complaining about overcommercialization, I'm asking you why should I buy Mr. Pibb when there's a Dr. Pepper in the same machine for the same price?
If MLS gave me something different and interesting rather than a bad version of what's already available elsewhere, I'd support that.

No it wouldn't because I could then feel a sense of personal ownership over a team in a way that's not available in the US or most of Europe at this point.
I've given money to Nashville FC (before the takeover), Detroit City, and San Fran City FC. I'm also a Jesters season ticket holder. I badly want a path for true community spawned clubs to thrive. MLS does all they can to stamp that out in favor of their single entity, corporate, NFL lite view of the world where fan expression at games is suppressed and the league changes the roster rules mid season when it suits them because why not? Every team is MLS owned anyway. It's not like it's real competition. That's not me saying that, that's MLS saying it.

They've had about a century of chances, most of that without MLS in the picture. You just need to accept that what you want does not equal what there is actually a market for. No amount of shitposting about MLS attendance, TV ratings, or tax attributes is going to change that it's far far far and away the most successful soccer league this country has ever seen, is improving in quality, is improving the development structure and is improving the talent of not just the United States but all of the North and Central American nations.

Oh really? When has the USSF ever allowed, let alone promoted an open pyramid. Also are you really going to compare the potential market for soccer in the US in say 1963 or 1989 to what it is in 2017? I mean really?
quote:

Most successful meaning hundreds of millions of dollars in the red?
Also how successful would they be if they didn't have the USSF blocking entry into the market for them?

How is USSF stopping anyone from doing that?
