I'll try to find the link but it was right after the season Brees said he doesn't know how much longer he can do this (referring to having losing seasons) and said he plans on playing out his contract (thus testing FA).

This is true; he began posturing by saying something to the effect of "at the end of the day I have to do what is right for my family" in regards to a question about playing out contract.

Brees play out final year

And he goes on the repeatedly state he'll take it one year at a time.

Reading between the lines he's going to do the best thing for him to get another ring. He wants that to be in NO but we NEED to make the playoffs this year.

I agree with your list, but I would move WILL from want to need.

It depends on how you are looking at it. We don't do a lot 3 LB sets (the Sam doesn't see the field but for a quarter of snaps).

You have Klein and Anthony at the Mike and Robertson and Ellerbe at the Will. All 4 of them can really shift to any spot (though I would be careful putting Anthony at Will).

That's why I don't view LB as a need because you have 4 bodies for 2 and a quarter spots. Then we also picked up Te'o on top of that.

BUT as I stated if we can grab a true impact LB we should definitely think about it. Problem is the one guy I think is truly impactful in this draft comes with medical and character red flags and probably won't be around by 32. I wouldn't touch him at 11, especially given the Must at rush end.

U got time to give ur opinions on

Foster - (I'm pretty sure this is who u are talking about)

Reddick

Cunningham

Jarrard Davis

I like all 4 of those by pick #42

Run to the podium if any or there by #76

What yall think?

Eta: not saying any would be my pick, the draft is a crapshoot and guys fall or get picked earlier than expected

shite all 4 could be gone by #32

Even if not, you could have guys the Saints have with top 25 grades at #42

You could see guys like Charles Harris, Jordan Willis, T.J. Watt, Gareon Cronley, Kevin King, Quincy Wilson at #42

shite crazier things have happened in past drafts than possibly Taco Charlton and Tre'Davious White being there at #42

So not saying any of those LB's would be my pick, just wondering how yall see/view them as prospects???

Yeah Foster is the guy I was talking about. He's a wrecking ball and has speed to cover. But the red flags are very worrisome at 11, and still a concern at 32 though the value would perhaps be too great to pass up.

That is of course without personally seeing the medicals and personally talking to him. Either of those could make the decision swing greatly one way or another.

Reddick is a guy I think could be very good, maybe like a young, healthy Ellerbe. But I don't know if he'd be an immediate upgrade over what we have.

Long term he'd be great for us. Ellerbe is on his last year and always hurt. I wouldn't be opposed to him at 32 but 11 might be a little early (and again the DE need is great).

Cunningham would be a solid guy, but I'm not taking him in the first. Maybe at 42 if he somehow falls there. I'd still like to look at other positions instead (CB, S, QB, HB, and maybe even speed receiver).

I actually have not looked into Davis.

I'm not giving an opinion. I'm just adding Raekwon McMillan to your list. Those are all the guys that can be taken by pick #42.

I'd like to hear someone break down each player as well.

Yeah I updated my above post to say that you could have CBs or DEs that "fall" to 42 that have 1st round grades and that none of those LBs would necessarily be my picks but I do like all 4

We have the bodies sure, but I really don't view any of them as capable at WILL and pass coverage duties.

Outside of Ellerbe...and his age, contract status, and especially injury history make him tough to count on.

In our two LB sets, it was Robertson and Ellerbe playing. This year, it will likely either be Klein or Robertson and Ellerbe if healthy. Klein and Robertson will get torched.

I think Robertson will start at SAM if Klein wins the MIKE job.

The whole point of getting Klein was so Robertson could kick outside. He was the Will up in Cle and was touted as a good cover backer.

I think he struggled at times in coverage because he was also trying to play Mike. I think that was an issue with Anthony his rookie year also.

Cover from the outside and covering from Mike are VERY different things. The Mike is always looking for the run first before checking his cover. And then he has further to run out to pick him up. It's very hard to be a Mike.

Robertson back at Will (or even Sam as he has the size for it) will do fine in coverage. It was his strength in Cle. It will be here again.

That's why I guess I'm viewing this differently. We'll have at least two pretty good Wills, one of whom should be healthy most of the year.

I'm actually more worried about Mike and how well Klein will play. That's a big unknown and scares me.

If he doesn't work out and Robertson is forced back to Mike (like with Lauranitis last year) then it will be a big issue. For that reason I see us looking for a Mike in the draft if one is a good value at the pick.

Saints have 5 picks in top 3 rounds.

I'm thinking Payton trades the two 3rd round picks to acquire a pick in the 2nd round. He can't help himself. So we have 2 first rounders and ultimately 2 second rounders.

What they should do is trade down in first round from 11; acquiring an extra second round pick. Someone will want the 11th pick to select a quarterback in front of Cleveland.

That way....Saints will then have 2 picks in round 1, round 2 and round 3.

If no QB's are picked before our 11th and every team knowing that cleveland needs a QB picking at 12 I do think this is the scenario that may lead to CSP's first first round trade down.

Is it draft day yet?
