What if the others can do the same thing while also adding another dimension that Etling does not do well?
I'm pretty sure that is what Canada is doing, see who will be the best at the position. The new coaching staff is not going to start someone just because some fans think he is a good story.
Whoever is under center first game will be the guy the
coaching staff has faith will lead this team the best.

Meh..It's hard to defend a team when the qb is solid at his reads. You can spy a lb'er on a running qb, especially if your dl gets penetration.

Dude don't start that drops BS, y'all did that last year and this year there is now excuses for DE.
Did you not see Dupre? He had more senseless drops at the beginning of the season than anyone. Changed quarterbacks and he started catching balls. I think BH just threw inaccurate passes too hard. At least when DE throws a bad pass it has some touch on it.

Meh...
A guy who can make solid reads, plus can punish you with his legs, is a muthafricka. I wouldnt want a guy who could only run.

I don't really know who the best QB is but I'll trust Canada and Co. to make that decision. That said, I do know DE isn't close to good enough to beat Bama or compete for a Nat'y. Look at the 4 QB's who made the PO's last year. DE isn't sniffing any of those guys in talent. The kid from Washington would be the best comparison as true pocket passer and that would still be a mismatch of epic proportions. I think we should give one of the you ger guys the nod unless they aren't close to being ready

Just looks like his completion percentage has been the same since high school like I said before. So yes, we should be alarmed. Throwaways are nice, but he seems to throw the ball away far too much when there seem to be other options.
May DE is afraid if he makes a mistake fans will do to him what they did to BH. Dunno. But, if he hasn't shown better decision making ability when things break down by fall, then it should be time to look elsewhere.
Some stats I posted in another thread. Numbers don't lie. DE has never shown the ability to make plays in the passing game consistently.
DE
LSU 2016 - 59.5
PUR 2014 - 54.9
PUR 2013 - 55.8
Now for HS:
DE
2012 - 51.6
2011 - 53.8

Well based on the trend of the stats you have provided. Not only are they better than in HS but also are improving at LSU.

Completion percentage isn't good but YPC is great at 25 plus. YPA is good as well. Perhaps they are working on longer passes which would account for lower CP and high YPC. These numbers reflect the last two scrimmages for DE.The thing is we simply don't know.

But the one constant is he has not completed a good enough percentage needed to win a championship right now. I just posted his Completion percentages. The rest of his stats are not good either.
There's a reason he was passed by another QB who was passed and they both had to transfer. I have never and will never bash a player, but I will continue to point out deficiencies when I see people spewing off about how great he is when he's really not.
Sure Canada is the coach and makes the decisions, but I hope he and O don't try to please the fans in their first year since DE seems to be a "favorite" of the fans. Make the right choice because the young man earned and you're not handling him the position for public opinion or as consolation prize for being a senior.

quote:60% is debatable depending on the type of offense. Run with PA shots 60-65% can get it done imo, although I admit I'm not giddy with DE deep shots.
