I'm in the middle of a career change and there are certain jobs I cant and won't take because of my dog at home. It sucks because they are good opportunities, but there's always something else. Regardless of the job, I would be depressed without my dog, especially in a new city.

Too many variables to make a decision without more context. But in general, I think people should honor their commitments regardless of to whom or what they are.

Your dog is loyal to you because you feed it, it'll be loyal to the next person who feeds it, too.
