I have a 25 hour layover in Reykjavik..
Is the airport near any sights that I can take a quick cab about and see before returning?

Yes, google maps is your friend. But, I would look into some waterfalls and Blue Lagoon. BL is 45 minutes from airport and many people's first or last stop there. Reservations necessary.
I know more going east, you could hit Skogafoss, Seljalanfoss (sp?), Vik, Dherholaey(sp?)
You could also go west and check out Kirkjufell and other stuff over there.
Honestly just driving around highway 1 you'd see some great sights too. I wouldn't bother going to Reykjavik if you only have limited time.

The airport is in Keflavik thanks to the Navy, and getting through customs going in is easy, getting out is another story. You can visit almost any attraction on the island in a day, but with a small time window like that I would have it planned out first.
I would schedule the Golden Circle to see Faxi, Thingvellir, and Geysir.
