This is dumb.
I can't really think of any other way to describe it.

I don't see any of that on their website, do you have a link?

Yet Treme is proudly worn by brass bands.
I don't think Touro owned slaves himself, but may have participated with ships and such.

I agree, with just the 4 monuments they want to take down
I'm calling BS on this list though, no link, sounds too absurd, even for them

There never should have been a conversation. I will never understand why Mitch took this on with all the other things this city needed to focus on. Really an incredibly poor decision.
-------------------------------------------------------------
It was a calculated political decision on Mitch's part. He was term limited out as mayor, so he brings up this shite hoping to ride the Dylan Roof/confederate battle flag wave into a position in the Hillary Clinton administration. Mitch is all about Mitch. New Orleans and it's citizens are just a conduit to facilitate Mitch's political aspirations.

The statue they chose, Jackson, is on the federal register of historic landmarks, is one of only two in the nation, and the other sits on the lawn opposite the white house. It ain't moving.

Took it on? The mother fricker basically started it. The city council said so.
And Latoya Cantrell railed on him for it, bitched him out for getting behind it, said all the reasons why it was stupid, and then after all of that voted for it anyway.

Would've been political suicide had she not

She showed that no matter what she says or what she promises she will cave to the lowest common denominator and will err on the side of political aspiration even over common sense.
So she can't be mayor.

I don't know. I assumed he owned slaves at some point, because he died before the Civil War, which is the other way to get on the naughty list. But, on the other, there are Take 'Em Down NOLA supporters who think Andrew Jackson fought in the Civil War.

What about "New Orleans"?! Jefferson Parish! Louisiana! King Louis was an SOB!

After looking at their website, this group meets at Istanbul Cafe off St Claude.
No problem meeting in a Cafe that is synonymous with Armenian genocide that is located on a streetc named after a slave owner that is located in an area of the city named after a plantation that once housed slaves (marigny).
Good with all of that hypocisy.
