We already have supervised opioid use...it's by the prescribing physician (supposed to be at least).
This article is about supervised heroin use, which is insane.

So it's sort of like Hamsterdam on The Wire?
What stops the cops from sitting at the door and arresting the junkies as they walk in?

i don't condone heroin use but if you are going to do it, i dont' want you to die because of it

The lawmaker is proposing that the citizens of California buy heroin to give to addicts with the assistance of , I'm assuming, medical people. Simply giving people heroin is not how you get people off the drug.
It may reduce needle borne diseases and overdoses (among addicts who choose to go there), but it's not going to make a dent in an an addiction epidemic.

It's apparently not just opioids, but "crack and other drugs".

Correct. This is the equivalent of saying if you're going to drive drunk the least we can do is give you a police escort so when you crash we have a better chance of saving you.
It doesn't address the real issue at the heart of these people's problems.

Read the article and you will see that in other cities, like Vancouver, BC, it's actually cheaper than not having one.

I have no problems with this. The US needs to adopt Portugals pov on the drug game.

The govt needs something to do with all the dope they're growing in Afghanistan.

At the very least, we need to open all of these drugs up to some of the various medical testing groups. It's so easy to just say yeah drugs ruin lives, but it would be nice to put them through the ringer and see if any of these things can have a positive side.
