I can't agree more, having a healthy player who has gamechanging abilities is a much wiser investment than a late 1st pick because of the jump between college and NFL. It takes usually years to demonstrate the effort involved to make the jump.

Sure is talking a long time. Is this good or bad?

Not sure it matters. Butler won't be in a rush because he has awhile before he NEEDS to sign the tender (or not).
No other visits have been set up. I think this is coming down to getting all the ducks in a row and making sure the Patriots don't want to match or better the Saints offer at the last minute (and not get the picks that they would).

Revis had a lingering leg injury this year and it wasn't the first time he's had one.
Like I said, health is key. Very hard to stay healthy, but if he can he'll be fine
This is in reference to the 2015 season. 30 is relevant, 35 is rare. I hope we keep 31 like I was originally hoping for. I wouldn't give anything more that a 3rd for a 27 year old CB that will demand a five year contract and 12-14 million. Draft his replacement with the 32nd and sign him to a 3 year deal.
"Last season certainly wasn’t Revis’ best as he showed his age a bit being unable to cover quicker and more explosive receivers. That’s to be expected from a 30-year-old cornerback who’s tasked with covering the likes of Watkins, Hopkins and Amari Cooper. Still, Revis more than held his own, just not to the level that he once did when he was in his early- to mid-20s. He wasn’t a first-team All-Pro selection, but he did make his seventh Pro Bowl."

Corners aren't like HBs. They don't drop off a cliff at 30.
As long as he keeps his legs healthy he can easily play at a high level until he's 35.
This chart says the opposite. I tried to paste it but couldn't make it happen...

That graph says that cb's peak in their first or second year in the league. Seems kind of weird right?

Yea, because that is definitely wrong

He's citing PFF grades as an accurate measurement of player performance.
Nope.
Nope.

Let it go man. You were wrong.
Giving a 5 year contract to a 27 yr old cb is a bad idea. Cornerbacks do not play elite to 35. The majority fall off a cliff after 30, 31.
Draft two corners, 32 and one in the third and leave Malcolm's huge contract alone unless you can get him for a 3rd or less.

Your math is very bad, and you should feel bad.

Get ready to be mad because it's going to happen. Can't wait for the meltdown from those of you who don't want him.

its also very possible that butler decides to just stay with the pats and used us to show his value. if the pats match what he and the saints agreed on then this could have been very much like the hightower deal where testing the market was just a tease and a chance to measure contract value
I hope not, but the obvious lack of desire in getting this down quickly makes me think he is holding out hope the pats say they will match the offer of what the saints are offering.
I think any player would prefer to stay with his current team if the only issue is about the money

I respect PFF but that is a dumb chart. Based on that you get your best performance in two years then you shouldn't give a CB a payday or extension because you can draft and replacement that is between the max performance window.
I would give a 27 year old a 5 year. There are contractual ways to get around it. Remember football ain't garuanteed money.

Possibly, but underhill also said on twitter that they have a week before the draft to get this done. No reason to rush on a deal that's complex and possibly illegal lol. I'd rather they cover their ground with this.

So would I and I hope it's Butler. If we lose out than we can either go after Sherman (which I doubt), or even Revis (which I doubt as well.) If all else fails draft a guy in a deep draft. There really is no bad option imo

I think going after revis wouldn't be smart.

maybe, maybe not. Couple of reasons why they should.
1. He's cleared of all charges. Don't have to worry about that.
2. He's making so much from NYJ we can get him really dirt cheap. Vet minimum cheap
Revis could play cheap
3. He also mentioned about possibly playing safety.
Revis may transition to safety

Revis’ previous contract stipulates that the Jets will receive a credit for any money that he should make elsewhere this season: So, for example, if Revis signed with a team for $1 million in base salary, the Jets would owe Revis $5 million, not $6 million.

“There will be a lot of thinking about where my future is and what can I do to best help the team win games,” Revis said. “If that means changing my position to help the team win, that’s fine. I still love the game and have a passion for it.”
