Thanks for all the opinions good and bad. We are looking at a bumper pull type, not too long. I'm 6'7" but have found a few with a vaulted ceiling up to 6'10" which is nice. Just need some bunks for the boys and a bed for us. Outdoor kitchen seems pretty common now. An outdoor tv would be nice for tailgating too.
Never thought about the abundance of used until the suggestions started coming in. I've since seen several Facebook used pages with local sellers. The idea of a new one isn't bad either though so we will have to wait and see. We may take the advice and try Shreveport shopping next.

There is some sound advice in this thread, especially about RV's being somewhat cheaply made. My father in law is on his fifth unit in 25 years. Says he wont go anywhere but Gauthier's on I-10 after years of terrible service experiences at the other dealers in the area. He'll drive a little further to get there now (also lives near Alexandria). You don't want to buy a new unit and then have it laid up in the dealer's device lot for 4 months because of incompetent service departments.
He also said used is fine but buyer beware. Some places will sell you campers with soft slide floors and rotten leaky roofs, so inspect them well.
