*Joy Division, Bauhaus, The Cure, Siouxiee and the Banshees, etc. are not in this and are part of the DARKWAVE/Dance movement. This is strictly radio play/MTV/pop music, for the most part.

1. U2 BOY (1980)

2. Inxs SHABOOH SHOOBAH (1982)

3. Tears for Fears SONGS FROM THE BIG CHAIR (1985)

4. Simple Minds EMPIRES AND DANCE (1981)

5. The Church THE BLURRED CRUSADE (1982)

6. Romeo Void BENEFACTOR (1982)

7. Duran Duran RIO (1982)

8. U2 THE UNFORGETTABLE FIRE (1984)

9. The Comsat Angels LAND (1983)

10. A Flock of Seagulls SELF-TITLED (1982)

Your number one wasn't New Order - Power, Corruption & Lies. List is invalid.

I was going to participate in this thread, but if you consider
quote:

Simple Minds EMPIRES AND DANCE (1981)

Duran Duran RIO (1982)

A Flock of Seagulls SELF-TITLED (1982)
to be New Wave, I don't see the point

Gotta be some B-52s, Elvis Costello, Pretenders in there. The Producers. The Police. I'll think of some more.

ETA The Romantics, Squeeze, Modern English, Split Enz

I was big into it back then and saw lots of them at Jimmy's, Ole Man Rivers, and the riverboat President.

ETA again of course The Clash

I grew up and came of age during this era. From the artists mentioned, I apparently have no idea what constitutes "New Wave".

In no particular order -
Smiths - Meat is Murder/Queen is Dead

Talking heads - Stop making sense

The cult - love

New Order - Power Corruption/low life

Echo and the Bunnymen - ocean rain

XTC - English settlement

Jesus and Mary chain - psychocandy
Depeche Mode - music for the masses

The cure - head on the door/kiss me

Public image - this is what you want

Let's active - big plans for everybody

The the - soul mining/infected

Hoodoo gurus - mars needs guitars/Stone Age romeos

ETA: I may or may not have a good grasp of what y'all mean as "new wave". There some overlap between new wave and punk.
