Isn't that just the gear from that specific station?
No clue. I'm genuinely curious what peoples opinions are about wearing that type of stuff as POTUS. I can easily understand if there were varying opinions based upon prior service.
Honestly, there isn't much precedent to go off of in modern times. I'm just curious how everyone perceives this.

Non military (engineers, etc.) in some places actually wear the same uniform as military members while overseas...
Trump is just wearing a flight jacket and hat...no one is considered in uniform until they wear the primary uniform items...trousers, top, boots
Also the guy that does my lawn wears old bdu bottoms

What did you think about Obama doing it? Why the sudden interest? Just curious.

Clinton, Obama, and Trump are the only presidents without prior military experience before becoming POTUS, in modern times since Truman.
Just as an aside, Truman was an artillery captain in WWI.
You might want to say since FDR. Nit picky, I know.

Didn't he go to military school? I know it's not official but at least it's better than sleeping around with old rich white dudes to get into elite Hawaii prep Schools.

Saw article criticizing it, and a few comments on twitter. Got me thinking.

I'm not a fan...unless they have served prior. Just seems like such a technicality to wear it. Now, if they were previously in, totally all for it and encourage it. But for those without, I think it is tacky.

Listen, silly retard:
He was giving a speech on the Gerald Ford.
He is wearing tourist type garb that the crew probably gave him.
I had a Top Gun hat in the mid 80's.
Was I wearing a military uniform?
He's wearing gift shop shite.
You are so dumb.

I thought Hugo Boss made better looking military outfits than that.

I don't really care as long as it's not some South American dictator looking shite. He is the CinC.

Just know that Obama, Clinton and so far, Trump did not put on a military uniform.
Also, as the leader of the military, putting on the "ship's hat" and a jacket with commander in chief on it should not be an issue for sane folks.
Anyone that criticized Obama for "military" garb was also insane in my opinion.
ETA: Please just admit that this became an issue now because of Trump. I appreciate honesty.

I'm not trolling here. Nor am I expressing much of an opinion until my last comment. Just trying to get some input of others opinions. This honestly isn't a fleshed out topic, so there is plenty of nuance to be explored.

Meh,
He isn't stealing Valor or anything.
It's not like he is decked out in patches, ribbons, and medals.

If he came out wearing class A's or BDU's then yeah, I can see a problem. What he is wearing is not a uniform so I don't see what the big deal is.
EDIT: I guess great minds think alike Tactical1.

Trump is the Commander in Chief. I personally would like him to wear the uniform of a Generalissimo.

on a related note for those who have ever seen the movie Dave......If I was president I would wear the jacket that Dave wears to throw out the first pitch pretty much anytime a I was not in a suit.

Literally HITLER!

There's nothing wrong with that. It's a normal flight jacket that was probably given to him from the officers onboard. And that ball cap he's wearing is the command ball cap. You can buy those in the geedunk for $10.

I liken it to any sport fan wearing a jersey to their teams game and welcome him to wear his "teams" jacket to a military application like that. It Shows he is very prideful about our great military.
I would bet it makes the men and women fighting the good fight feel uplifted to know he has their backs.
