You realize that has a lot to do with who colonized them right? The former French colonies are a lot better off than the British. French colonialism was about assimilation. You became French. British colonialism was about taking as much from the colonies as possible. They didn't give a frick about their society.

a lot of it had to do with who they allied with post-colonialism during the Cold War

the same thing applies to the ME. we only installed the Shah to keep the USSR from "colonizing" Iran and having influence in the ME

we pay for that sin to this day, but nobody can argue the world (or Iran) would have been better off had it become the Cuba of the ME

I thought you sounded like some kid spouting off some college-like "It was imperialism, man!" stuff, but this confirmed it.

By every single objective measure out there, British colonies fare better than French colonies.

For every Iraq (Britain), you have a Syria (France). For every Rwanda (Britain), you have an Algeria or a Mauritania or a Senegal or a Cote d'Ivoire (France). Haiti, Vietnam, Cambodia, on and on and on. Virtually none of the former French colonies are in even decent shape.

Britain has India, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Egypt, and on and on. France has nothing.

Edit to add: And if you don't know anything about Iraq, I'd suggest you do a little more reading or actually go visit the place and find a little deeper cause than a country that occupied them for all of sixteen years.
