I thought they also made it seem like what she had was HIV or AIDS, wouldn't Forrest have it too? A simpler and clearer 1 sentence explanation of her disease would've quelled this suspicion.

1.) it was extremely clear what disease she had
2.) HIV is actually pretty hard to transfer in normal straight sexual encounters.

I have believed for a while that the movie did not want that suspicion quelled and that it is partially left up to the viewer to decide.
