At a minimum, it's strange that he did but that nobody else on his committee did. To me it's also strange that the Russian ambassador was at the Republican convention given the issue of the Team Trump lobbying to change the RNC platform on the Russia invasion of the Ukraine at the convention.
Finally and given that Sessions is the one who recommended Carter Page to the Trump campaign, this whole thing is shady.
