Salad with no meat on it or fried shrimp poboy? Come on you know there is a big difference in those two things. Like I said I'm religious as well, and I respect the people that actually abstain from things during Lent. I do hate, however, when some Catholics try to act holier than thou because they give up snapchat for a month and eat a shrimp poboy for lunch and 7 lbs of crawfish for dinner every Friday.

If they're really acting "holier than thou," then they're kinda missing the point of it too.

But I would argue that in this modern world, abstaining from this or that isn't really a sacrifice, but more of a mental reminder to one's self and an act of discipline. But not a huge sacrifice. And the abstention is only one component of Lent, if someone is truly religious and not just trying to lose weight or something like that.
