The government is under no obligation to treat The New York Times any different than a weekly newspaper from Idaho. There is nothing that makes CNN any more legitimate, from a legal perspective, than a cable access news show in Louisiana.

Bannon could revoke every White House press pass and give them to small local TV and print outlets from around the country.

Or he could just cancel the daily briefing completely and ban all media from the White House.

These things are all tradition and not required by law.

ALL press functions exclude media, just by reason of space. Excluding one outlet vs another is not censorship.

It's not like all media are excluded. Just some. If you claim to report just the facts, then it really doesn't matter who is reporting them, right?
