I've read that they had to redo and edit that picture because in the original you could see the guy hoisting the flag had on at least one wrist watch. The Communist censors worried that since it was virtually unheard of for the average Soviet citizen to own a wrist watch, people would quickly deduct the fact this soldier had in fact looted the watch. And since the official party line was that Soviet soldiers were always well behaved (no looting, no murder, no rapes) they could not allow the unaltered picture to be published.
