Anybody make this switch? Work in either industry? Have any tips?

A bit drastic eh? You married with kids? If no then do wtf you want.

It's certainly something to chew on.

Yeah, I've always wanted to go into medicine. And I am so damn tired of working a corporate job.
The wife is actually a dentist and is on board with the switch

You're going to have to brush up on your people skills.

What draws you to dentistry, besides the fact your wife is a dentist?

I'm in CISSP training this week. I'm thinking of making the switch from IT to suicide.

Now that I think about it, that's the same thing.

When you become a dentist, make sure that your dental assistants and hygienists have big tits that they rest on their patients while working on them.

It may be something you can sink your teeth into. I'm sure your wife can help you study by drilling you with questions.

I'll have a schtickle of fluoride

I had always wanted to go to med school...for the typical cliche answers like helping people. Working in corporate america just reaffirmed that I want to help people directly (and make a lot of money doing it)
I discussed it with my wife and since I'm not exactly young anymore and we want to start a family in the next 5 years, we decided that a life in medicine would be too tough for what we want to do together.
She suggested dentistry, I shadowed a bunch of dentists, and decided it would be a good fit for me (hopefully)

I bet if you spoke about this career change to a Dentist, he would recommend IT.

This wouldn't hurt my fillings at all. Good luck....

Friend of mine switched from almost 10 years in sales to dental school.
From what I gather, they are very selective who they take in. They don't flood the market like law schools. For the prerequisite classes, he studied his arse off and had all As. Fwiw, he doesn't have a wife or kids so locking himself away for 4 years wasn't as big of a deal. It does take a lot of sacrifice

Lots of people go from IT to dentistry.

Writing nested multi join SQL queries on an oddly named DB in which the schema owner quit years ago is like pulling teeth, so you are halfway there already
