I have never understood the need for so many cops. I know the are law enforcement officers who frequent this board and I mean no disrespect to the honorable job that you do. I just don't get why we need all the these city cops, constables, deputies, troopers, weights and standards, city Marshalls, Dea, fbi, homeland security, us marshalls, etc.

That's an enormous tax burden for a population. Most people live their lives without ever breaking the law (minus minor traffic violations) and would never seek to do harm to another person.

WIth regards to the comment bout too many LEO, just consider that, with regards to the State Police, they are often taken off the road to help in other areas of the State, like in the Quarter in N.O. at times, riots, etc. I don't see this as an issue, especially at a time when virtually every city is lagging behind in being properly served.

Those right there could be cut out tomorrow and the average joe would see zero negative effect from it.

I italicized city cops because there are way too many of them based on the fact that in many small towns like (Crowley, Rayne, etc.) we could beef up the SO and police those towns....but there is too much money involved for the city to do that.
