I don't think that you know what I'm talking about. Common core does not introduce project based learning or any of the other types of teaching methods that are found in few charter and private schools around the country. "Manipulatives, songs, games, etc." we are talking about grades beyond kindergarten here...
Our current education system is centered around preparing kids for standardized testing with century old classroom designed to maximize the quantity of content that students are exposed to. I suggest you actually take a little bit of time looking into alternative teaching methods such as that done at High Tech High in San Diego.
