sitting at 470 trophies today. but believe me i feel your pain. I'll win a few in a row, get over $100-150k saved up, then blow it all trying to break a losing streak. i'm serious when i say i've gone from ~$120k in the bank to less $1k in a day.
the main thing between the high level players and beginners is the club levels. It really is worth saving up the 50 or 500 gems for a rare or epic club. Otherwise you can't really compete past a certain level. and you aren't going to unlock those higher level epic and rare clubs very often. it's also practice, i know inch of every hole of that 10k buy in course. Where to place my shot every time and how much back spin or forward spin to use.
Also, don't buy into "accuracy" for drivers, woods, and long irons. Means little to nothing. Power, back spin, forward spin, and curl mean everything. Practice using the curl. I never used it early on, but now I take advantage it to hit a green at a certain angle or position my ball on the fairway for a better next shot than the opponent. Wait til you get the wedge call the "Down in One" i can't tell you how many times I've "dunked" it from off the green. Really pisses an opponent off.

I have the down in one. I love placing the cursor on the cup from the initial bounce and draining it.
