I was going to argue the cost that the illegal population costs the state, but when you divide 244M by 60K that comes out to 3,733.33 per illegal which is a believable number.

Seems kind of low too.

I've seen topics about Louisiana's budget struggle, how much of that is linked to Medicaid and its recent expansion (lowering of financial standards to receive it)?

I don't know. I'm up here in NW La and we don't have a lot of Mexicans and I have no idea how many are illegal. I'm assuming the illegals are primarily located in South La.

So, let's focus on things that state government CAN control, shall we?

Legalize pot, get rid of the insane perpetuity law suits against oil and gas, sue the feds for offshore oil revs or create a way to charge them for tax revenues the feds recover from off shore oil.

For the current mid year deficit, nothing. The feds are covering 100 percent of the cost.
I haven't seen a budget yet for 2017-2018 so I can't speak to that issue

We can all dream though.

I hope you are just being lazy and didn't intend to infer that all illegal immigrants are from Mexico or that all illegal immigrants of Hispanic origin are "Mexican." In fact in recent years, more immigrants from Mexico have returned home than have entered the US.

So, state/local govts have the power to be 'Sanctuaries' in order to encourage illegals to come here.
But
They cannot do the reverse?

Support for both the revenue raised AND the lowered cost of jailing potheads

Aren't these all on contingency basis?

Revenue sharing I believe starts in 2017. 37.5% but every dime of it goes to coastal restoration, so it won't help the general fund. Nor should it.

I'm pretty sure the courts have consistently ruled that immigration control is a federal issue, not a state issue.
All sanctuary city means is that local resources won't be used to deal with immigration problems. Doesn't stop ICE from doing their thing.

Ok Ill pay the 138 and keep my Mexicans.

This thread is about La. My post was about NW La. The Hispanic people here are about 100% Mexican. And they are rare. If you look at the ethnic breakdown of the school system in Caddo/Bossier parishes the 'Hispanic' rate is about 5% and they don't break that down to 'illegals'. That's probably much less than 1%.
Now, I'd be happy to hear about your non lazy description of the illegal problem in South La.

Yes, it does stop ICE from doing their thing. That's the whole crux of the city dispute with the feds. Of course, things are currently changing. That's because Obama is no more.

From the Department of Pulling Numbers Out of Their arse.
Really. At the bottom the document cites ITSELF as the source for the data.

Send me your check. I'll keep my Mexicans because they are all legal and 2 of them are naturalized citizens.
