not really, the idea that our "metabolisms slows down with age" is mostly a myth
granted, it may slow a little (1-2%) but nothing to make any discernable difference in ones appearance.
depends on hormones. My metabolism changed rapidly, come to find out I suddenly had the testosterone levels of an 80 year old man. My brain had stopped telling my pituatary gland to produce testosterone. This isnt the norm though.
what happens to most people they keep eating like they are still doing tons of activity and the pounds start stacking on quickly. Then they start having hormonal shifts due to the excess weight. It becomes harder and harder to get the weight off.
Then they start coming on meassage boards whining like baby back bitches about how hard this is blah blah blah. Bunch of average fat guys who lack the discpline to do what needs to be done and commit to seeing something through.

Problem is people see fitness models and body builders and think that is an attainable goal.
When in reality most those people walk around day to day nothing like that. That's why you never see them working out shirtless unless its for a photo shoot.

yes, your case is rare, indeed.
generally speaking most people experience very little metabolism loss with age
its simply a convenient excuse "but muh metabolism"
