Homeschooling laws vary widely by state. Each state creates its own level of monitoring because education is delegated to the states not to the feds. NY is notorious for being a difficult and disorganized state to homeschool in. I'm not familiar with their laws so I don't know what they require in terms of reporting, but I don't know of any states that require a particular curriculum to be followed in a home school.
