I haven't purchased a piece of gear since I was about level 20. I'm now level 50+.
The only time to purchase gear is to disassemble it for parts.
I'm also level 18 when it comes to exploring. I don't move on until I get every item in each place.
I'm right at the ceremony of suppression and the team's response. Getting close to the end game.

eh, I much prefer the simplicity of just restocking on gear every time you reach a new town as opposed to buying/looting 10 of the same weapon, breaking it down, and enhancing what you already have.
I would also say that thus far, Berseria is one of the least visually impressive Tales games I have played. I'm about 10 hours in and there hasn't been much of interest to look at thus far. Everything's just a forest, a cliffside, or a medieval village or castle.
I do really like the game though. It's a return to form for the franchise.
