I hiked with friends. We parked a car at the end and drove another one to the beginning. Shuttled back to the beginning after the hike.

I've done over 500 miles starting at Amicalola Falls visitor center over the best few years a week or weekend at a time.
First thing I do every year is buy this guide book.
Second is check out this forum.
Third, I'd be happy to answer any specifics you have. This year I am planning to make a three week trip.
