Kudos to the Dodgers for passing up that trade.

With the Brian Dozier saga concluded, it was expected we’d hear details of the talks leaked sometime soon.

Jon Morosi dropped an interesting nugget this morning: Minnesota was asking for the moon.

Postscript on Brian Dozier/#Dodgers talks: At one point, #Twins wanted Jose De Leon, Yadier Alvarez and Willie Calhoun in the deal. @MLB

As they should have. Dozier is a 6 win player at a position that the Dodgers were desperate for

and we were the only team looking for a second baseman with backup options. That is a ridiculous demand and they better hope dozier starts this year like he finished last year cause that's the only way they will get something like that

Is the price high? Sure, but I don't think it is a ridiculous demand. Dozier was a top 10 player last season under a very, very reasonable contract. He should fetch at least two high-level prospects.

The Dodgers fans on here seem to overrate their own guys. You have to pay to play.

dozier was a 6 win player last year. thats really fricking good. but he has never had power numbers like he had last year and forsythes batting metics, launch angle and exit velocity, grade out better than his. i can absolutely applaud the season dozier had last year while being skeptical that he can continue to be a more than a 4 win player down the road and im not going to trade de leon and alvarez and calhoun for that

not really, we arent the only group of people that have suggested that both de leon and alvarez would be an overpay and thats before we get into calhoun on top of that

and we were already doing that with de leon and other pieces that havent been mentioned yet but probably will

you can say the twins passing up on de leon and a minor piece makes sense for them. i wont argue that even if i would worry that dozier plays like he did during the first half of last year, tanking his value at the deadline. but us saying nah to this and then turning around and grabbing forsythe for just de leon is a much better move

if the twins were really offered both JDL and alvarez and they actually wanted to haggle over a third piece and kept demanding calhoun, then i dont know what to tell you. they greatly over played their hand if this is actually what happened

De Leon has flat arm syndrome & Diaz is relatively unproven. Calhoun will be a decent player but never as good as Dozier

Ya like he doesn't have the most HR out of all 2B the last three seasons

And all it equaled was similar numbers to Chase utley last season

Wait, wut now? Dozier hit 28Hr the year before, which for a 2B is monsterous.

For comparison he has 70Hr over the last 2 years. Forsythe has 15 LESS!!! than that on his fricking career. You want to talk about a guy with a small sample size, it's forsythe not Dozier

As a Cubs fan, thanks for settling on Forsythe.

I don't know what that is.

You mean Alvarez? All minor leaguers are unproven, but he's the Dodgers #1 pitching prospect and maybe their #1 overall prospect.

Agree with that. I think Calhoun ends up in LF.

Bottom line for me: I'd rather have Logan Forsythe, Yadier Alvarez, and Willie Calhoun than have Brian Dozier.

what's your point? I'm not saying he's never had power. I'm saying he's never had what he had last year

I never said that forsythe had a longer track record of success. I said that I worry about dozier being a player that he was last year

I think calhoun is going to end up in the AL as a DH

Word. I put him in LF if he stays with the Dodgers, but DH is his best position.

Fwiw, I would have traded DeLeon, Calhoun and a pitching prospect like Stewart, Stripling, or say Chase DeJong or Trevor Oaks for Dozier in a heartbeat. Yadier Alvarez was the sticking point for me. If he stays healthy, he's going to be special.

Over the past two years, Forsythe has a 119 wRC+, Dozier 117 wRC+. Now that is definitely cherry picking stats/timeframes, and Dozier has still been more valuable due to defense, baserunning and durability. So Dozier is definitely the better get, but not enough to throw in 12 possible years of control on Alvarez and Calhoun for me.

Well I don't think anyone thinks Dozier hits 40 Hr next year, but if he regresses to 25 he is still a top 10 2B. Should Forsythe regress he is nothing more then a util player. He doesn't exactly have a proven track record

There is nothing wrong with standing pat for the Dodgers I guess. My point is that it was not some wildly insulting as Dozier is pretty great.

At some point, I would think the Dodgers would want to cash in a few chips. They have a deep and top heavy farm, but a lot of their MLB roster outside of Kershaw and Seager is built on depth. They likely have a great team, but I am happy as a Cubs fan that they are not going for Dozier.

The baseball media has over-hyped prospects over the last decade or so. IMO, a player of Dozier's ability can easily be worth that much, just depends if you're willing to take the risk, or the more sure thing.

I'd say it's not farfetched to assume that maybe two of a team's top 10 prospects become everyday players, if even that.

we have a starting rotation built on depth. Justin Turner is a top 5 3rd baseman in all of baseball, yasmani grandal is a top 5 catcher in all of baseball, joc pederson is a top 10 center fielder in baseball

There is legit talent all in that lineup, there's a reason why right now the Dodgers are projected to have the best record in baseball on fangraphs, and all we needed was an upgrade at 2nd
