I doubt they'd do it for under 20 million a mile

Don't know if this has been said in five pages, but economies of scale.

The logistics are a nightmare. Just moving the human excrement out would cost a shitton.

I think he means construction costs + land purchases = total cost > 12.5m / mile, which I would agree with. They'll get it for under 20, because 'murica. Someone will figure out how to profit. I wouldn't want the headache.

Chances are that the majority of this wall be prefabbed somewhere in the form of concrete panels and installed on site. There will be some structural site work no doubt, but not what you are picturing.

No doubt.

Plus, there wouldn't be an architect involved. A ton of engineering firms will be trying their best to get the contact.

addition, we give Mexico $54 million per year in aid. We could easily divert that money to the wall project until the job is complete.

A case could be made that the aid to Mexico would do more to limit illegal immigration than unknown billions on a wall.

You're claiming labor and steel would cost $8 million per mile?

Bruh....

You've got to buy land. You've got to hire security. Mexican gangs WILL be taking pot shots at workers like they do at border security. How deep are we going? For ever foot up, you've got to go 3" down. That's a lot of excavation and foundation work. 25% of your concrete is underground. You've got to feed and house tens of thousands of laborers for a few years in the middle on nowhere. Plus haul away their pee and shite.

I'm not saying don't build a wall, but you have no clue how big of an undertaking this is.

Okay, I looked into this shite while eating some gross healthy food this evening.

Concrete is $90 a square yard, and $14 per square yard for rebar. That's non-bulk, RETAIL price.

Assume installation takes 6 minutes per foot of wall (which is fricking slow) with labor costs at $200 per hour, or $20 for every foot of wall.

Assume the wall is 50 fricking feet tall and one foot thick.

Per foot of wall:
$10 per square foot for concrete x 50 = $500
$1.50 per sq ft for rebar x 50 = $75
$20 per foot of wall for labor

= $595 per foot of wall

Add 20% for cost overruns and other bullshite.

= $714 per foot of wall.

Add more, just because frick YOU, that's why.

= $1000 per foot of wall

x 5280 feet (one mile) = $5,280,000 per mile

$5.3 Billion for 1000 miles of wall.

Double it, because frick MEXICO =

$10.6 billion for a 1000 mile, 50 foot high motherfricking wall.

Show me where I am wrong. Anybody!!!

It's literally the dumbest thing America has done in my lifetime...

Complete waste of money, and it likely will never be finished.

This may be the stupidest thing I've ever read.

The thing will be in panels between steel beams. Panels will be formed off site and trucked in. The entire footprint will be excavated 25% of the height and beams set in concrete footers.

You've got to buy the land, feed and house tens of thousands of workers in a wasteland with no electricity and no plumbing (and no walmarts). Modular cities will have to be constructed.

You sound like an 8 year old.

Did you see the part where I added 20%, then, for no good reason, doubled it.

Let's hear your estimate. Don't shoot down my figures unless you put pen to paper.

But, land?

Ask all border landowners if they would grant an easement to the Fed Gov in exchange for the wall being built on the easement. IF they say no. Eminent domain that shite and the value they receive is the security the wall provides. Thus, they have been justly compensated. Case closed.

But assume it's $500 per foot of easement (way fricking high) to buy the land.

That's an additional $2.6 billion for 1000 miles, total being $13.2 billion.

Who's the 3-year-old?

you came up with ridiculous numbers out of thin air and then doubled them? They must be credible, then.

You want me to put pen to paper because you took 4 minutes and estimated concrete, steel and labor while excluding several other factors? To come up with a halfway accurate estimate would take hours. No thanks. I've already pointed out billions in cost that you completely ignored. Start with feeding and housing, say 1,000 people in the desert. How much does that cost per day? How much does it cost to ship in materials? To move the modular city? For security against protesters and Mexican gangs, both looking to disrupt construction?

Would a round number like 15 bil be a good estimate?
