re: How much more of Johnny Jones can LSU take?

Serious question. What benefit does LSU get from letting him go now? They would have to essentially run the the table to make the NCAT. Is that going to happen under an interim coach? And if it did, is it out of the realm of possibility that Joe Alleva would just hire the interim and not conduct a full coaching search? He got a jump on everyone by firming Miles midseason and ultimately hired a guy he could have hired yesterday without even getting into a full scale search at the end of the season

Yeah. Looks like Alleva is content to let this one play out ugly so there can be no arguing against his firing after this season.

Makes no difference if they fire JJ yesterday, today or 2 years from now unless they are prepared to hire a competent replacement.
However, This season is lost. Firing him now sends a message that the university does in fact give a shite about it's basketball program, and sends the message that they will not accept this level of play. Now does that get you any more wins, who cares, likely not, but at this point it's not about wins anymore this season, it's about proving to the people that support the program that you're committed to getting this team back on track.
Having said all that, JJ will not be fired during the season if at all these next two years.

Avoid any tiny possibility of Johnny Jones somehow winning the SEC tournament, like Georgia in 2008...last place in the SEC regular season but ended up going on a run in the SEC-T and winning the damn thing and getting an automatic bid to the NCAA-T.
Just fire him now so there's no chance of LSU going on any miraculous run down the stretch under Jones that might sway opinions of fans, board members, or F King and prevent Alleva from being able to fire JJ after the season...like what happened with Miles last year.
