You have 14 days to backpack, day hike, and explore the American west

EDIT: I have a REALLY good idea of what we'll be doing. Just bumping to ask if anyone wants to join us! I'm either brave, dumb, or just dumb...

June is the end of mud season for most parts out here. I would recommend staying in Arizona, Utah, Nevada.

Why not spend the time in a few parts of Colorado? Sounds like it'd be a fun time.

Not ruling it out. I've been five times, but I've never seen Telluride, Ouray, Durango.
I have this huge desire to see Lake Tahoe though, and to backpack Yosemite (went in 09 but was limited).
I made up a crazy road trip last night with stops in Raton, Estes Park, Salt Lake, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce, and Ouray.
Almost 4 days of driving. Three week trip minimum.

Gotcha. Sounds like fun. Go do it. Tahoe is beautiful, but there isn't much scenery away from the lake. 1-2 days is plenty. The Sierra Nevadas south of there on CA Hwy. 395 are amazing... I'd highly recommend the John Muir Trail if it didn't require permits.

Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon.
I have been all over the west and I those are my two favorite spots. You could spend your entire trip exploring those two parks.

Colorado, south to north.

Colorado trail. Start near Denver at Waterton canyon. Hike to Durango. Although June may be a little early if you don't want to deal with snow.
Utah, any of the nationa parks.
June could have lots of snow in high elevations. Lost Creek Wilderness could be nice then.

What about Sequoia and Kings Canyon? Half a day each? One day each?

It depends on this year's snowpack and whether it's early June or late June. My first answer is the same as yours. But if it's a snowy year in early June I'd probably do Utah instead.

I've reversed the route so that we'll end in CO. That 2-3 week difference should help a lot.
Utah folks, it's a bit too much desert for me based on pics. I hope I love it as much as you all do.

One day each. If you get bored, move on.

I would travel the SW region of the USA. It's usually great in the summer. Go to places in Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, and you can't go wrong.

Moab, Yellowstone, Jackson, then maybe Sequoia if time permits.

Looks like fun. Let us know how it goes.

Anyone interested in joining my girlfriend and I on this trip? Terrible that I have to ask, but none of all of my friends have embraced fatherhood and family life while I'm just getting started with my traveling career
