Does anyone consider him [Satriani] a "great"? Serious question.
Yeah there was a thread about him not long ago and a lot of people were singing his praises. Technically he's good but he doesn't play with any emotion.

Almost put this but I have too much respect for Freddie Mercury as a performer
I think it's perfectly fine to respect a band as great artists but not really "get" them. I feel that way about the Stones. You can't deny their impact on rock music but I simply don't enjoy a lot of their music. I don't blame them; I blame me.
As for Fleetwood Mac, there's just not a lot there to "get". They were a pretty good band in the early days but I didn't really care for the Buckingham/Nicks incarnation of the band. Once those two joined, it seemed to be all about them.

I'm with you on the Stones. I like some of their songs a lot, but overall they leave me cold.
I've seen several mentions of U2 in this thread. To me they fall into the category of bands that either write incredible, anthemic singles, or a whole bunch of filler. I'd throw the Cure and early Pearl Jam into this category too. When they're on, they're amazingly on. But when they aren't, well... they really aren't.
I say early Pearl Jam because they have done literally nothing post-Yield that interests me. Some of their later singles are amongst the worst recordings I have ever heard. And yeah, I'm sure the downvotes will fall like rain, but it is what it is.
