What is it about this style that makes it better?

I find the live albums better than the studio albums. #2 live dinner, the live from billy bobs (CCR, Pat Green, Boland, Stoney Larue) better than the studio albums. Which shows they are not just Nashville label creations that can't perform live.

Pat Green is the artist who got me turned on Texas/Red Dirt music. George's Bar was the first CD I bought of his. Saw him in 2002 and the Georgia Theater in Athens. I was hooked.
Then I got turned on to Cory Morrow, Randy Rogers, REK, Jason Boland so on and so on.

They are all really good to see live. I've seen Jason Boland and The Stragglers play just as hard in front of 20 people as they did in front of 200 people.

The one, and I mean one, bad performance I've seen was REK at The Varsity with about 10 people there. Saw him at HOB not too long after that, and it was awesome like normal.

Before all of his stuff went down, I saw Stoney LaRue in Houston play by himself at a bar. Played around 15 of his songs, and took requests for the rest of the night. After he got done, we took some shots at the bar and he bitched about the drink prices, so we went back and got drunk on his tour bus. Funny thing is I've taken a lot of shots with him at three different bars, and he never gets free drinks

One common theme with TX/Red Dirt guys is they are on tour basically all year and play bars and food/drink festivals (other than the coup de grace at Steamboat)
