Of course they don't put the pictures of the 15-20 yr old personally owned boat on the website. Not saying some guys don't have really nice boats, because some do, or their family does and they are able to use it.
And forget about University funding. All sponsors and winnings. And some universities have rules on how much/what a bass club can accept in sponsorships.

I know when I fished for McNeese you had to use your own boat. Pretty much everyone had old boats except for one guy, and that was because his dad had a badass boat that he used. Our only "sponsorships" were just discounts at some tackle shops.
