If he has a ccl and was not intoxicated than it was an illegal arrest.
You would not believe how many police officers do not know the law

What happens to ccl holders that aren't even going into bars.
It's the cops in NOLA. This will be abused to the fullest extent possible. The FQ is a dump.

That's what I figured.
Chappy, you are right about that. I moved away from the metro area 8 years ago. Watching a-hole nopd cops on tv further confirmed that I have no desire to go downtown anymore.

I have always concealed carried when I'm in NOLA but to be honest I always do anytime I'm in a city environment. Are these cameras supposed to make Police stop everyone with a gun?

It is beyond idiotic to carry a loaded firearm in public while drinking.
Dumbass moves like that fuel the anti-gun efforts of lobby groups.

final version of the proposal, which also calls for making much of Bourbon Street a pedestrian mall.
Can someone explain what the hell this is?

So you carry when you plan on drinking in the FQ?

I think this would be ruled constitutional for the same reason license plate readers and CC cameras are legal- there's no expectation of privacy walking down a public street.
I don't entirely agree with that btw but I am confident courts would see it that way.

Bourbon Street a pedestrian mall.
NYc did this to Time Square. Basically permanently shutting down the street to vehicle traffic.

the only way cameras like that would get installed is if someone in the city government also owns the camera company

It already is a Pedestrian Mall during all but a few hours of the day. They need to open it up to let deliveries and service people in to the businesses.
What about the cross streets? If they close those to traffic, the FQ will go from being a traffic nightmare most evenings to an absolutely impassable quagmire.

This is a good and pivotal question. How exactly will the cameras and information be used.
It might be a very good thing or a very bad thing.
