Those norton pop ups were way to annoying and time consuming. They had primaries to rig.

For anything work-related, especially Enterprise-level, McAfee and BitDefender are preferred. For home use, Symantec.

They ran out of the free 30 day trial CDs you used to be able to pick up all over the place.

The Russians convinced them not to.

What I don't understand is how they don't have a crew of professional security guys literally hounding people to constantly change passwords/daily updates to software and network security. What in the fricking frick.
I know next to nothing about tech, but I know that if I am protecting political secrets, I want that shite locked down tighter than a Nun's pussy.

If it didn't have a pass code to open, it may also contain the Clinton emails..?

Maybe they were using Kaspersky.

IT consultant here. I know this is a political board for getting angry and whatnot but I rarely encounter anyone using antivirus on their Microsoft Exchange servers. If they do, Microsoft makes them exempt a lot of directories. Sounds bad to a low level IT professional but it really is common in the industry. The thing is that you wouldnt want your exchange server to be exposed to the DMZ or "normal" parts of our network directly. you proxy al that traffic in through a firewall and use load balancers or NAT. I suspect this is where they fricked up. It's not a computer you use to browse the internet and install random shite on.

At what point is it considered criminal negligence?

Most of my clients have virus scans on incoming and outgoing email. In some cases, they are required to.
Edited to say most, not all. We don't test it for all of them.

You do know that anti-virus does not prevent all hacks right?

Um. You don't know what you're talking about. Virus scan on the server OS and file system is a completely different thing than scanning incoming mail. Every single client scans mail with something like Ironport, proofpoint, etc and that sort of scanning is not done on the server. Those are separate appliances.

Anti-virus will generally not prevent hacking. It's preventing known malicious software from running.
